10th Anniversary Barrel Cave Dinner
Saturday June 10th
Sparkling Wine Reception 6:15pm
Cave Dinner 6:30pm
10 years! Where does time go? The last few years, especially, have been a blur. We will be the first to admit it has been far too long since we had a cave dinner, and we hope you will join us for a very exclusive event. It is the 10th anniversary of the opening of the cave– and what better way to celebrate than with a spectacular dinner inside the cave.
Because it is the 10th anniversary, we dug deep into our library to find wines from 2013. Chef Janet O’Connor has tasted these carefully cellared wines and developed a menu designed to not only highlight the strength of her cooking but also the beauty of aged wines.
Our wine pairings will be a mix of both vintage and young, new world and old world. Pinot Noir may be king in the Willamette Valley, but our Italian heritage reigns supreme. You will find both options well represented at the dinner. Coincidentally, 2013 was the first vintage of Nebbiolo we produced from our own fruit. It is one of the most challenging of our estate plantings and does not always get to a ripeness that merits a red wine (we’ve made some delicious Nebbiolo Rosé on those cooler years!). But when it gets ripe, the wine is amazing. In true Nebbiolo fashion, our 2013 vintage is showing better with 10 years of age.
This menu has a number of quintessential northern Italian dishes. Duck and rabbit are both frequently found in Italian cooking, and fennel in its various forms is used both as a seasoning and a vegetable (roasted fennel is one of my favorites these days). The humble Pasta e Ceci makes an appearance, paired with our Rosé of Pinot Noir. This dish is dear to my heart because it was the first ‘quick dinner’ Alfredo made for me in his little apartment in Michigan, pulled together on the fly from pantry staples. This apartment was also where I learned to make a roux, salt the pasta water, cook delicious greens and understand that parmesan cheese didn’t come from a green can. Thirty years later, I have quite a repertoire of Italian cooking and am grateful for all of the wonderful meals we’ve created and enjoyed together.
We look forward to sharing the special evening with fellow Italian food and wine enthusiasts– old friends or new, we look forward to seeing you.
